ABS-CBN News reports that, “Guests of a 5-star hotel in Manila were forced to evacuate Tuesday afternoon after flood waters entered its lobby.”

Said hotel was the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, located in CCP Complex Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, 1300Manila, Philippines. The flooding was caused by a storm surge, a rising of the sea (Manila Bay) as a result of atmospheric pressure changes and wind associated with a storm (Pedring).

As the large waves  hammered the coastline of Manila Bay on Tuesday and eventually submerging Roxas Boulevard at around 8:00AM, the flood waters also started to enter the lobby of the hotel. Their buffet restaurant, Spiral, was also submerged in water. The staff immediately responded by evacuating the guests. The hotel guests boarded available vehicles, including those provided by emergency personnel who responded to the incident.
