As reported at Calamba City’s official website on Thursday, May 12, 2011, The local government of Calamba City, Laguna led by Mayor Joaquin Chipeco Jr. is being set to unveil the tallest monument of Jose Rizal, the country’s national hero on June 19, 2011, Rizal’s 150th birthday, on his birthplace.

The monument is 22 feet tall, with the number symbolizing the 22 languages and dialects used by Rizal. Among these are Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Malay, Portuguese, Russian, Sanskrit and Spanish.

the monument will rest on the newly-bought 6.7-hectare property in front of Calamba City Hall complex, with no less than President Benigno “Noynoy” S. Aquino, III (PNoy) doing the unveil.

Several groups have been preparing for the celebration of Rizal’s 150th birthday. Among them are the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), which has been refurbishing the Luneta Park by sprucing up its gardens, repainting its statues and adding new facilities.

The new monument will be unveiled to the public on Rizal’s birthday on June 19(Sunday).
