National Artist for Literature Dr. Edith L. Tiempo was rushed Sunday afternoon for myocardial infarction at the Silliman Medical Center and pronounced her dead at 5:35 p.m. after trying to resuscitate her.

Dr. Edith L. Tiempo is a poet, fiction writer, teacher and literary critic and a Filipino writer in the English language.

In 1979 she won first Prize in Novel at Cultural Center of the Philippines and in 1988 Gawad Pambansang Alagad Ni Balagtas awarded to her by the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL)

She was conferred the National Artist Award for Literature in 1999.
